Alessandro Aprile

Modica (RG), 1999. Based in Bologna

Alessandro Aprile's research has to do with folklore and a sacredness typical of his place of origin: the statue of the saint in procession, Easter luminaries, invented games and childhood scenes to combat heat and boredom. The will to look for an expedient is present in his pictorial research, and in his works he always feels the urgency to evade specific limits and rules, experimenting and testing all the devices he uses. In his latest painting cycle he borrows Sicilian puppets and theatrical settings of his native land, making a deviation from the narrative of street theaters. In his paintings he forces the narrative scene, creating a paradox between the non-reality of the puppets and the narrative representation of the actions.
