Artist Christian Schreckenberger

Christian Schreckenberger

Weinheim, Baden, 1968. Based in Düsseldorf

Christian Schreckenberger’s works move between drawing, object and installation. They take as their point of departure forms, signs and things that appear strangely familiar, yet resist any clear legibility. They seem like fragments of a given or possible world of things, shifted, condensed and animated through the artistic process.
Schreckenberger is less interested in closed form than in a state of transition: the moment in which a line, a remnant, a gesture or a simple material gains presence. Figuration in his work does not appear as representation, but as an open field of associations. Bodies, animals, apparatuses, toys, ritual objects or doodles emerge without ever becoming fully fixed.
