Artist Sebastian Bartel

Sebastian Bartel

Mönchengladbach, 1982. Based in Cologne

Sebastian Bartel’s artistic practice explores how people visualize and make sense of their environment, spanning from microscopic structures and habitats to landscapes and cosmic dimensions. He is interested in the ways images emerge within scientific, cultural, and social contexts, and how they subsequently shape our understanding of the world.
For Bartel, scientific visualizations, maps, and museum displays do more than merely communicate information; they actively create narratives about nature and reality. In this view, images become tools through which the world is organized and interpreted. His work examines the concepts of nature and "worldmaking" embedded within these images, questioning how such representations shape human perception and behavior.
